Totalitarian One-Party Rule By The GOP Looks Undefeatable Now

The cult Party of Trump controls all three branches of the Federal Government and half the states. It controls the military and the secret police organs.

There was hope, even an assumption, that the Democratic Party would take back the House of Representatives, presumably putting some check on Trump's exercise of dictatorial-type power. (He has ignored hundreds of lower court rulings that didn't go his way, especially on the persecution of immigrants.) But through a combination of blocking Democratic voters from voting by purging the voting rolls and other tactics, and massive gerrymandering of Congressional and state legislature districts too, giving the GOP super-majorities in state legislatures to wield untrammeled power), it looks like the GOP won't lose control of the House. They almost certainly will retain control of the Senate, given the large number of rightwing states in the U.S. The fact that the people of California only get 2 Senators while the 20 or so least populous ones, with the combined same population as California, get 40 Senators, shows how hopelessly ANTI-democratic the U.S. political structure is.

The GOP (Gang Of Plunderers) looks like it has won the gerrymandering battle. Through a combination of their control of he Republican Supremacist Court (aka U.S. Supreme Court), and militantly anti-democratic state party governors and legislatures, combined with Democratic Party weakness and fecklessness, the Democrats are unable to match the Republican gerrymandering that leaves voters who don't vote Republican with little representation in Congress and state legislatures. Soon such voters will have NO representation in Congress if they live in Louisiana, Tennessee, and other states. Every district in those states is being drawn to assure Republican majorities in each district. There will be NO Democratic Congresspeople from those states, and from others probably as well. For example, the Republicans who control Louisiana broke up New Orleans into three districts, creating a spaghetti bowl of districts to make them majority Republican. (Example: one of the new districts for New Orleans extends a tentacle 200 miles to link it to a slug of Republican voters in a faraway white suburb.)

While California looks set to match Texas' creation of more Republican districts, effectively disenfranchising the large number of non-Republican citizens of the state, other Democratic-controlled states have been stymied in their efforts to counter the totalitarian drive of the GOP. New York state is bogged down in its effort. In Virginia, the state supreme court just killed, by a vote of 4-3, a referendum passed by the people of the state to create more Democratic districts, claiming it violated the state constitution. Here we see the result of years of allowing reactionaries to sit as judges. For years right wing political operatives have concentrated on filling the judiciaries of the states and Federal government with reactionary ideologues. Now we are seeing the result. This is one leg of the effort to make the U.S. a permanently reactionary nation.

One party rule is a totalitarian system. We see the ongoing legal assaults on the segments of the media that do not completely toe the Trump regime line. There are the persecutions, even murders, of protesters and dissidents. 

Trump announced before his latest election that he planned to be a dictator. He was obviously serious. I guess many who voted for him either didn't hear that, or thought it was a "joke," (It wasn't, and that was obvious at the time), or they want Trump to be Dictator.

Dictatorships don't need majority support to stay in power. They just need control of the means of violence, the people with the guns, and a segment of the population. That's what the Nazis ended up with in Germany, that's what the murderous Argentine and Chilean dictatorships had, and that's what Trump has.

The Republican Supremacist Court and the Trump regime committed a fraud in hammering the last nail into the coffin of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Louisiana is changing the district maps in the middle of an election as I write! There will be zero representatives for the Democratic voters of Louisiana, predominantly African-Americans. Thus we are back to the pre-Civil Rights era in the U.S. Tennessee likewise is already moving to eliminate the last Democratic Congressional district in that state. We are living in an era of totalitarianism in the U.S. in which there is no opposition tolerated by those in power, who seek absolute power, as is clear in the many statements and acts of their Leader, Trump.

The project to establish One-Party rule in the U.S. was initiated by Congressman Newt Gingrich after the election of Clinton in 1988. He set the GOP's strategy of ending "bipartisanship" (limited cooperation between the two political monopoly parties that both support U.S. imperialism and corporate hegemony) and opting for a drive toward one-party rule, which is coming to fruition under the tyrant Trump.

We are increasingly left with the only option being armed resistance, since they don't care how many people march in the streets shouting. On that terrain the reactionaries and fascists also have overwhelming dominance, both in terms of guns in private hands but especially in control of police, secret police (FBI CIA etc.) and the military.

The Trump Cult is right now moving to steal the midterm election. Various establishment news organizations have been reporting on these moves. They had the FBI raid Fulton County, Georgia's election board to seize ballots from 2020. They have subpoenaed all the personal information on the poll workers in that county. They are attempting through bogus legal and other means to seize records and exert control over various election districts that Trump lost. Also in Georgia, the state election board is now controlled by Trumpists who insist the 2020 election in Georgia was "stolen" from Trump. They are apparently going to seize control of voting in Fulton County, to guarantee the GOP "wins" there in future elections.

At best, the Democrats will have a slimmer majority than they are rightfully entitled to if they win the House of Representatives. This won't be the first time that has happened either. The Democrats for decades have looked the other way from cheating by Republicans. The door was swung ride open for this in 2000, when 5 Republican apparatchiks on the Supreme Court stole that year's presidential election for Bush the Younger by locking in the theft of Florida. It's been downhill since in terms of what passes for democracy in the corporate oligarchic, bourgeois class dictatorship, the U.S.
